There is a reason that new Corvette ZR1's come with a free 2-day driving course at schools like Bondurant. There is a lot of power in the 638-hp supercharged Corvette and while there are many technological features designed to keep you in control, sometimes shit happens that can be hard to do. While we don't know the details of what happened to this Corvette ZR1, we did surmise the following:

Man stomps on accelerator, Corvette ZR1 gets sideways and whacks something really hard. Insurance covers accident and Corvette is put up for sale on eBay.

So we finally have come to the moment in the Corvette ZR1 timeline that we can check-off seeing the first damaged car being sold on eBay. VIN #00427 is a 2009 Cyber Gray Corvette ZR1 that looks like it took a hit to the driver’s rear quarter panel. From the looks of things, that back wheel is gonna need a serious alignment.

The auction details tell of some of the damage:

    * Cracks on the left side in the rear tub assembly
    * Rear bumper cover is TORN.
    * The lower control arms on the left rear are bent.
    * This is a fantastic Corvette with numerous features. A sure to please.

Mecum Auctions just wrapped up their 22nd annual Spring Classic last weekend in Indianapolis and Corvette sales were rather brisk during the five day event. We counted 146 Corvettes available on the docket with 68 selling for a total of $2,879,150 and a sales success rate of 46%. Those are fairly strong numbers considering the economy.

The top selling Corvette was the 1954 EX-87 mule (Lot #F208) used by Zora to set a record at the Arizona proving grounds. The restored engineering car sold for $310,000. The second best seller is an auction favorite, a 1967 Corvette convertible (Lot #F236) powered by an 427/435 hp V8. Described as a matching numbers masterpiece, the Nabors Brothers restored C2 convertible has three NCRS Top Flight awards. The Lynndale Blue Corvette sold for $162,500. Third on the list was a 1958 Resto-mod (Lot #S33) that sold for $137,500. The C1 tubular frame Corvette is powered by a Z06 engine from an '01 C5 and finished in a bright yellow exterior.
